Ducal Coronet Lassalle & Cie, Paris, retailed by Fontana Frères, Palais Royal, Galerie de Valois 22-23-24, Paris. Made for a Duchess "C.N.", circa 1860. Fine and rare, 18K gold and polychrome enamel, jasper, and pearl-set fob watch with matching chatelaine. Accompanied by the original fitted leather box.
C. Four-body, "bassine" with coin-edge band, back a single piece of brown jasper with applied gold ducal crown. Hinged gold cuvette. Chatelaine: the top designed as a shield from a single piece of brown jasper mounted in yellow gold with applied enamel coat of arms, flanked by two lions rampant and surmounted by a gold, enamel, and pearl-set ducal crown, gold spoon, three gold chains; one for the watch, one for a matching seal, and another for a matching key. D. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions. Gold Breguet hands. M. 25 mm. (11'''), frosted gilt, bar caliber, 10 jewels, cylinder escapement, three-arm gilt balance with balance spring. Signed on the cuvette, retailer inside the box, the box marked on the outside with the ducal crown and the Duchess' initials. Dim: Length 140 mm, diam. 28 mm.
