French, 18th century.Wood, tortoiseshell, and engraved copper, mantel watch holder, so-called "Boulle", the front central part has two hinges on the side, which can be opened to place the watch, the top part represents a flame, on the bottom is a gilt bronze plate featuring Neptune, the Roman god of the sea; the whole richly decorated with floral volutes and ornaments in the Louis XIV style.
