French, 18th century.Wood, tortoiseshell and gilt bronze mantel watch holder, so-called "Boulle", underneath the watch aperture is a gilt bronze plate, the front with two hinges on the side which can be opened to place the watch, the top part is decorated with a cockerel, symbol of light, the whole richly decorated with floral volutes and ornaments in the Regency style.
