A collection of Watch Holders

German, 18th century.Carved and polychrome painted wood watch holder, representing a large, black bird attacking a dying man, tied to a tree by his hands and feet. The scene is taken from Greek mythology: Prometheus, a Titan who stole fire from Olympus to give to mankind, was chained to a rock in punishment, where an eagle tore at his liver until Hercules freed him. The watch holder is mounted on a shaped base.
