Jb. Melly à Paris, circa 1760. Fine silver pair cased repoussé quarter repeating "grande sonnerie" coach watch with alarm.
Outer double body shark skin covered silver case. Double body silver inner case, signed with a "L" (probably Lang-pour in Dresde) repoussé with a fine symbolic representation of an episod of Mercure's life and further "rocaille" decoration, the edge pierced with scrolls. White enamel dial with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring, inner revolving alarm setting disc (hair cracks). Blued steel hands. Full plate gilt brass movement with baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement with a plain gilt brass three armed balance, a Louis XV continental cock and a polished steel endstone. Grande sonnerie with the hour striking train independant of the quarter striking train, both with fixed barrels, released for the repeatition at will. Alarum train with a fixed barrel as well.
