Le Roi & Fils, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Swiss, made in 1777 for Marie Antoinette Queen of France. Magnificent and unique ormolu giant "grande sonnerie" quarter repeating "pendule d'officier" with calendar and alarm. Sold with a certificate from M. Brac de la Verfillire, Comte d'Orléans, the previous owner, giving the historical back ground of the clock.

The gilt bronze case finely chased with four birds on the nest, suns on each sides, and further vine branch decoration. Engine turned bezel. White enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer Arabic minute ring and inner calendar indication. Gilt brass pierced and engraved hands. Large brass full plate movement, signed on the back plate, with cylindrical pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain three armed brass balance, continental cock and polished steel endpiece. Striking train with a going barrel. Pull repeating, pull wound alarm and striking on two bells. In very good condition. Dim. 36 cm. high with the handle.
