Henrick Verstylen en Amiers, circa 1650. Rare and important gilt brass and silver oval moon phase astronomical watch with alarm.

Double body gilt brass oval case, the silver covered band engraved with urns and foliage, the silver back pierced and engraved with a kind of caryatid, flowers and strawburries. Off set small silver chapter ring engraved with Roman numerals and inner gilt brass revolving disc for the alarm, subsidiary symetrical silver chapter ring for the dates and a very small chapter ring for the days of the week, apertures for the phases and the age of the moon. Blued steel arrow hands. Gilt brass oval full plate movement with "amphores" pillars, three wheel train with fusee and gut line, verge escapement with five leaf pinions on the contrate and the crown wheels, balance wheel foliot with single foot pinned gilt brass cock, pierced and engraved with strawburry flowers, spring tension adjusted by a click (ratchet wheel lacking). Alarum train with a fixed gilt brass barrel, pierced and engraved with strawburry flowers, striking on a bell. In very good condition. Diam.: 74 x 53 mm.
