Anonymous, Japon, circa 1800. Rare silver pocket sundial and compass suspended from a carved wood netsuke in the form of a chestnut.

Double body case the back repoussé with swirling clouds, the cover with a dragon. The compass with an oxidized chapter ring engraved with the signs of the Zodiac is set on the lower part, the sun dial on the cover with an outer zodiac chapter. In good condition. Diam.: 41 mm.
