(John Rich, London), Swiss, case by Jean Reymond Georges, enamel painting in the manner of Jean Abraham Lissignol, Genève, made for the Chinese market circa 1820. Magnificent and extremely rare pair of 18ct gold and enamel pearl set oval two tune musical boxes with symetrical painted scenes on the covers depicting the Rape of Helen by Paris after the engraving by Guido Reni (1575-1642) kept in Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale, Cabinet des Estampes, Dd 29.

Three body oval cases, the lid with a split pearl border, the panelled band enamelled with blue and red geometric lozenges, the base panel with a similar decoration opening to reveal a shallow compartment. Very fine engraved gilt brass skeletonized movements with fusee and chain, pointed cylinder, playing on six bells by means of six piled up polished steel hammers. In very good condition. dim.: 92x59 mm.
