Dionistius Hessinckti, made for Bogislaus, the XIVth of the name, Duc of Pomerania, Prince of Rugen and Cammin, Lord of the Land of Butow, and engraved with his Coat of Arms and the date 1627. Extremely important and rare gilt bronze table watch in the form of a book.

Three body case, engraved overall with scrolled foliage and flowers, the cover bearing the inscription: "Von Bogislaus des Namen der Xllll Herzog zu Pommern der Fürst zu Rugen zu Cammin Here der Lande Butow" and the Coat of Arms below the dial aperture, the back is engraved with the portrait of two noble men below a chased and pierced griffin. Iron hinged clasps in the form of caryatides. Silver en-graved chapter ring with Roman numerals and inner Arabic numerals, gilt brass pointer part of a revolving disc giving the phases and the age of the moon. Round full plate move-ment for the going train, with column pillars, a gilt brass engraved fixed barrel, a stackfreed, a verge escapement with a balance wheel foliot and a screwed single foot gilt brass cock, pierced and engraved with flowers and the head of a bird. Independant rectangular striking full plate movement, the signature engraved on the back plate, with column pillars, a gilt and engraved fixed barrel, the count wheel sunk flush into the back plate secured by a fine gilt brass scrollwork plate, striking on a bell. However in good condition, the piece presents some evidence of restaurations comming to its age. Dim. :113x80 mm.

Notes

Previously in the Bernal collection which was dispersed by auction in 1855, this clock is described and illustrated in Britten: "Old clocks and Watches and their makers" since the 5th edition published in 1922.
