Jacobus Markwick, London fecit, circa 1690, for the French Market. Gilt silver pair cased quarter repeating watch.

Double body pierced outer case engraved with a crowned monogramm. The double body "bassine" inner case, pierced with scrolls, birds and flowers, is also engraved with scrolls and inhabited foliage in a pattern similar to that of the French Louis XIV oignons. Gilt silver champlevé dial with Roman numerals and concentric Arabic minute ring. "Poker" and "beetle" blued steel hands. Full plate verge movement with amphore pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain three armed steel balance and English cock. Repeating train with pierced and engraved fixed barrel, striking on a bell when depressing the pendant. In good condition. Diam. 58 mm.
