IHS Probably German. Made for the Dutch market, circa 1740. Interesting and unusual, portable brass desk clock with alarm, probably made for a member of the clergy.

C. Three-body, rectangular, polished, back with aperture for the bell secured by a strap. D. Silver, champlevé with radial Roman numerals, outer arcaded minute track with five-minute Arabic numerals, center with silver alarm setting disc, engraved brass mask. Pierced gilt hands. M. Rectangular, 62 x 41 mm, gilt brass full plate engraved with "IHS" and a cross, turned baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, four-arm brass balance with single-footed pierced and engraved cock, alarm from fixed barrel with verge escapement, alarm mechanism striking with a double-ended hammer on the bell. Dim. 68 x 48 x 22 mm.
