The Musicians William Gib, Rotterdam, No. 761. The case with London hallmarks for 1732. Very fine and very rare, large, 22K gold repoussé pair-cased pocket watch with date and gilt brass and shagreen outer protective case.

C. Outer: two-body, gilt metal and shagreen. Second: Two-body, repoussé, very finely chased with a scene of three musicians and a Roman warrior within a classical landscape and scroll border and with four outer cartouches each containing a putto playing a musical instrument, scrollwork between. Inner: Two-body, plain polished, by P?H (master mark), deep back. D. Gold champleve with radial Roman numerals, inner half-hour divisions, outer minute track with five-minute Arabic numerals, signature cartouche and date aperture in the center. Blued steel beetle and poker hands. M. 41 mm, gilt full plate with large divided fancy pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain steel balance with flat balance spring, single-footed cock with streamers, finely pierced and chased backplate furniture, silver regulation dial. Dial and movement signed, movement and gold cases numbered 761. Diam. 62 mm.
