Peter Vincent, London, No. 101, circa 1750. Very fine 22K gold, agate-set pair-cased quarter-repeating watch with matching chatelaine, made for the Dutch market.
C. Outer: double-body, bezel and back set with 22 agate plaques within rocaille-decorated gold frame. Inner: double-body, "bassine" form, the back pierced and engraved with a mask, a small landscape and inhabited foliage, the center with an engraved flower. Matching chatelaine decorated en suite and set with 32 agate plaques. Gold seal and crank key. D. White enamel with Roman numerals and outer Arabic minute ring arched every five minutes in the Dutch manner. Pierced gilt brass "Louis XV" hands. M. Hinged gilt brass full plate with baluster pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain steel three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt brass English cock pierced and engraved with a mask and foliage. Quarter-repeating on a bell by depressing the pendant. Signed on the back plate. Diam. 50 mm.
