William Carpenter, London, No. 4560. Made for the Chinese market, circa 1790. Fine and rare, gilt metal and paste-set quarter-striking, two-train clockwatch with centre-seconds and stop feature.

C. Two-body, 'bassine', pierced back and front cover engraved with foliate decoration, the bezel set with red paste stone border. Gilt dust cover. D. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track. Gold ovoid hands. M. 36 mm, hinged dial plate, gilt brass full plate with tapered cylindrical pillars, two-train, going train with fusee and chain, verge escapement, plain steel threearm balance, single-footed cock pierced and engraved with foliage, diamond endstone, silver regulation disc, striking the hours and quarters on a bell in the back of the case. Movement and dust cover signed. Diam. 54 mm.
