Minerva Jacques Cogniet a Paris. Made circa 1700. Fine, Louis XIV, scarlet japanned and gilt-bronze hour and half-hour striking bracket clock with conforming bracket.
C. Typical form with arched cornice surmounted by ormolu figure of an Minerva with shield and spear, foliate ormolu border, female mask below, raised on a flared rectangular base, on ormolu scroll bracket feet, the gilt bronze door decorated with repeat leaf pattern, white enamel signature cartouche in gilt mount, the whole decorated with scarlet japanning and painted gilt Chinoiserie figures and landscapes, matching bracket with gilt-bronze foliate mounts. D. Gilt-bronze decorated with scrolls and foliage, with white enameled cartouches with radial Roman numerals, outer minutes with each minute individually numbered. Blued steel hands. M. 16 x 13 cm, rectangular, brass, spring barrels for both trains, verge escapement, steel rod pendulum with silk suspension and brass bob, count wheel on the back plate, striking on a bell mounted in the top of the case. Case and movement signed. Dim. 130 x 49 cm. Including bracket.
