Venus and Cupid F(erdinand) Berthoud a Paris, Swiss. Made circa 1770. Fine, gold and painted on enamel, hunting-cased pocket watch.
C. Two-body, hinged and sprung front cover decorated with an oval painted on enamel panel depicting Venus at the altar of love, border decorated with green and white stylized enamel leaves, the back decorated with a scene of Cupid and doves by the altar of love, border decorated to match the bezel, release catch in the pendant. D. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and Arabic five-minute numerals, winding aperture at 2 o?clock. Pierced gold hands. M. 33 mm., hinged gilt brass full plate with wide tapered cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement with micrometric potence adjustment, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, pierced and foliate chased continental type balance cock with polished steel end-piece, silver regulation dial. Dial and movement signed. Diam. 43 mm.
