Cephalus & Procris Gerrit Knip, Amsterdam, No. 157. Made circa 1750 incorporating Blois school enamel panels of circa 1685. Extremely fine, 22K gold and painted on enamel pendant watch, the case depicting scenes from the story of Cephalus and Procris.
C. Two-body, ?bassine?, hinged cover decorated with a painted on enamel scene of Procris returning to her lover with the dog and arrow of Diana in a landscape, cupid above, the interior decorated with a finely painted view of two figures viewing classical ruins by a wooded riverbank, curved band and bezel decorated with engraved rococo foliate scrolls and flowers, the back decorated with a scene of Cephalus discovering the mortally wounded Procris in a wooded landscape, the interior decorated with a very finely painted classical landscape. D. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer arcaded minute track, Arabic five-minute numerals. Pierced gilt hands.M. 45 mm., gilt brass, full plate, square baluster pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, three-arm steel balance, flat balance spring, finely pierced and engraved continental cock and backplate furniture, silver regulation disc.
