Oignon Clockwatch Cogniet a Paris. Made circa 1720. Very fine and very rare, large, Louis XV, silver, two-train oignon clockwatch striking the hours and half-hours and with mock pendulum.

C. Two-body, ?oignon?, the deep back decorated with concentric rings, pierced stylised scroll border, pierced foliate band beneath the bezel, polished bezel, square hinge, loose ring pendant. D.White enamel with radial black Roman numerals, inner quarterhour ring, outer minute track with Arabic five-minute numerals. Steel beetle and poker hands. M. 52 mm, frosted gilt full plate, divided Egyptian pillars, fusee and chain, click and pawl set-up, verge escapement, steel balance with mock pendulum, chased cock decorated with symmetrical foliage and strapwork and with aperture for the mock pendulum, concealed Tompion-type regulator with silver scale disc, striking train with engraved gilt standing barrel, fine steel foliate pieced striking gate, striking the hours and half-hours with a single hammer on a bell in the back of the case.
