Notes

What is a Day-Night Indicator? This type of watch was first developed by English watchmakers towards the end of the 17th century. The half circle sector at the top of the dial describes the hours of daylight from 6AM until 6PM. The smaller half circle sector concentricly beneath the day sector describes the hours of night from 6PM to 6AM. The hand that indicates the hours is one straight hand, shorter on one end and longer on the other. The long end has a sun on it, indicating daylight hours, at the end of the day as that end of the hand moves off its sector, the shorter hand, the night hand, moves onto its sector. The mintes past each hour are read off an auxiliary dial below the hands.
