The Golden Horse Rob(er)t Twyford, London, No. 970. Made for the Chinese market, circa 1790. Very fine and rare, gilt bronze and wooden table clock in the form of a horse with regulator dial, center-seconds and lunar calendar.

C.Gilt bronze, finely cast and chased in the formof a horse supporting the clock on its back housed in a drumcase hungwith swags and surmounted by a classical urn with bellflower swags, wooden rocky base in the Chinese manner. D. White enamel, regulator-type, eccentric meantime dial in the upper half with radial Roman numerals, dial in the lower half for the lunar calendar with painted moon phase symbols depicting the waxing and waning of the moon, outer seconds divisions with Arabic five-second numerals. Gilt Louis XV hands. M. Gilt brass, full plate watch-type, engraved foliate decoration, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three-arm steel balance, flat balance spring, single footed cock pierced and chased with foliage, silver regulation dial. Gilt dust cover. Dial, movement and dust cap signed. Dim. 32 x 17 cm.
