Country Life French. Made circa 1850. Fine, small, 8-day going, hour and half-hour striking, musical clock painting, playing one of two tunes on the hour or at will.
C. Gilt wood framed oil on canvas, featuring a rural church in a landscape with figures in the foreground, trees, cattle and a memorial in the distance, the tower of the church with the clock. D. White enamel, radial black Roman numerals, outer minute track, Arabic five-minute numerals. Steel arrow hands. M. Rectangular, 11 x 11 cm, brass with going barrels both for the going and the striking trains, anchor escapement, pendulum with silk suspension, striking the hours and half-hours on a coiled gong. Musical movement: 9 x 6 cm., pull-winding, pinned brass cylinder, playing with 42 tuned steel teeth in a single comb (two broken), pulls for start/stop and tune selection in the base of the case. Dim. 93 x 78 cm.
