Charles Peiras a Blois. Made circa 1615. Fine and rare, gilt brass, pre-balance spring, single-handed oval pendant watch.
C. Re-gilded, two-body, oval, fixed back, the band engraved with a continuous band of fruit and flowers, turned lower finial, tulip pendant with loose ring, hinged cover over the dial, the interior engraved with a wreath. D. Hinged to the case, oval, integral chapter ring with radial Roman hour numerals with inner dots, heart-shaped half-hour divisions, the center engraved with a scene of Bacchus holding a cup of wine and leaning on a barrel amongst foliage, outer border engraved with foliage, beasts and winged herms. Blued steel arrow hand. M. 46 x 35 mm., oval gilt brass, turned vase-shaped pillars, fusee with gut-line, short four-wheel train with six-leaf pinions, verge escapement, brass two-arm circular foliot, elongated cock pierced and engraved with fruiting vine, secured by a pin, ratchet wheel and click mainspring set-up. Movement signed. Dim. 50 x 38 mm. Excluding finial and pendant.
