Apollo and the Cumaean Sibyl Markham, London, No. 8436. Made circa 1760. Very fine, 20K gold, repoussé pair-cased pocket watch.
C. Outer: two-body, repoussé, decorated with a scene of Apollo and the Cumaean Sybil, within an asymmetric rococo cartouche, bezel decorated to match. Inner: two-body, "bassine", polished. D. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, fiveminute Arabic numerals, the border decorated with a polychrome stag hunting scene. Gold fleur-de-lys hands. M. 35 mm, frosted gilt full-plate with square baluster pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three-arm steel balance with flat balance spring, pierced and engraved continental cock, silver regulation dial. Movement signed. Diam. 47 mm.
