Two-Day Marine Chronometer Robert Roskell, Maker to the Admiralty, Liverpool, No. 1230/56096. Made circa 1860. Fine, small, brass-bound rosewood, two-day Marine Chronometer with 56-hour power-reserve indicator and ratchet key.
C. Three-tier brass-bound box with flush brass handles, the glazed upper section with bone signature and numbering plaque, hinged lid, the interior with a trade label, brass bowl with gimballed suspension. D. Silvered with radial champleve Roman numerals, outer minute track and Arabic five-minute numerals, subsidiary seconds and power-reserve indicator. Gold spade hands. M. 63 mm., gilt brass full plate with ring-turned pillars secured by blued steel screws, 11 jewels, fusee with chain and Harrison?s maintaining power, Earnshaw escapement, spring footed-detent with jewelled locking stone, two-arm cut bimetallic compensation balance with cylindrical weights, two mean time adjusting nuts and two screws, free-sprung blued steel helical balance spring with terminal curves. Dial and box signed. Paper trade label of Angelo Petrali, Cardiff. Dim. Bowl 113 mm., box 17.3 x 16 x 16 cm.
