C. Two-body, "Directoire", polished, concave bezel, concealed hinge. Spring-loaded gilt-metal cuvette. D. Annular white enamel, Breguet numerals, outer minute divisions, the center with aperture exposing the movement. Blued steel skeletonized hands. M. 51 mm., 22 1/2''', frosted gilt, full plate, cylinder escapement, three-arm brass balance, flat balance spring, index regulator, polished steel bridge, repeating on gongs actvated by depressing the pendant, polished steel repeating work on the backplate. Dial and cuvette signed. Diam. 61 mm.

Robert & Courvoisier The company was founded in 1770 by J. Robert of La Chauxde- Fonds, who in 1781 went into partnership with his son-in-law Louis Courvoisier. The company was first called J. Robert Son & Co., in 1805 Robert, Courvoisier, & Co., and in 1816, Courvoisier & Co. Along with the Jaquet-Droz firm, they were the most important makers of musical clocks.
