Perpetual Calendar Clock French, No. 4856. Made circa 1870. Very fine and rare, black and grey marble, 8-day going mantel clock with perpetual calendar, moon phases, hour and halfhour striking and visible Brocot escapement.

C. Rectangular black and grey marble, flat top, serpentine sides, wooden back door. D. Two-piece, white enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions, recessed center with apertures for winding, visible Brocot escapement with jewelled pallets, regulation arbour above 12. Steel Breguet hands. Dial below for the perpetual calendar, two-piece white and painted enamel, outer ring for the four-year leap-year cycle, the center with subsidiary dials for the date, days of the week and the months, aperture for the moon phases. M. 104 mm., gilt brass, circular, going barrels for both trains, Brocot escapement, brass bob pendulum, striking the hours and half-hours on a bell, calendar mechanism below. Dim. 42 x 35 x 17 cm.
