The Turtle Viennese. Made circa 1880. Fine and unusual, silver-gilt and painted on enamel turtleform table clock.

Two-body, in the form of a turtle, chased head, legs and tail, the hinged upper body with central aperture for the dial, decorated with polychrome painted on enamel classical scenes including Europa and the bull, the base decorated with an aquatic scene with a turtle, lobster and shell, the interior painted with river landscapes. D. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, the center painted with a reclining maiden. Gold spade hands. M. 13???, matte gilt, bar calibre, cylinder escapement, plain threearm balance, flat balance spring, index regulator. Dim. 9.8 x 5.9 x 2.5 cm.
