Rock Crystal English Pendant Watch Robert Grinkin in Fleet Street, London. Made circa 1640. Fine and very rare, gilt metal and rock crystal, pre-balance spring, single-hand pendant watch in the shape of a four-leaf clover.
C. Two-body, lobed and faceted rock-crystal cover and back, the gilt metal border engraved, the interior border and bezel engraved with scrolls and foliage, small pendant with loose ring, turned finial. D. Engraved silver plate, radial Roman chapters, quarter-hour markers, the center engraved with flowers, gilt brass dial plate engraved with floral decoration. Blued steel tulip hand. M. 24 x 27 mm., hinged, gilt brass full plate, early Egyptian pillars (one replaced), fusee with gut-line for the short three-wheel going train, verge escapement with two-arm circular steel foliot, small florally pierced and engraved gilt brass pinned cock with a later screw, worm-andwheel set-up replacing original ratchet and click. Movement signed. Dim. 44 x 29 mm.
