Bacchus and Ariadne French. Made in the 19th century. Very fine, repousse gold and painted on enamel snuff box.

C. Two-body, oval bombe, the base decorated with a central repousse flower Spray issuing leaf-bearing branches, the band with six panels of repousse stylised foliage, hinged lid set with a finely painted on enamel panel depicting Bacchus and Ariadne at a table in a woodland glade, a leopard and doves at their feet, the interior with a repousse coat of arms surmounted by a Vicomte?s coronet. Interior of lid punched with indistinct marks. Dim. 87 x 75 x 23 mm. From the Collection of an Italian Gentleman
