Longines Lindbergh Longines, "Lindbergh," movement and case No. 5497859. Made circa 1940 . Fine, very rare and unusual, large, hour-angle, indirect center seconds, stainless steel aviator's wristwatch.

C. Four-body, polished, revolving bezel with green and black enameled 15 degree graduation, graduated band, the notch activates the revolving central dial, hinged back with dedication inscription. Hinged steel cuvette. D. White enamel with painted radial Roman numerals for the 12-hour indication, the 180 degrees in upright blue Arabic numerals, central revolving matte silver dial with painted black radial Arabic numerals for the 60 minutes and painted red radial Arabic numerals for the 15 degrees, outer minute track. Blued steel Breguet hands. M. Cal. 18.69N, rhodium plated, 15 jewels, straight-line lever escapement, bimetallic balance, steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 48 mm. Thickness 15 mm.

Notes

The caseback is inscribed: Major Ross F. Cole from the officers of the 27th Division Aviation 1934-1938. The Major would later be promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and become the first Group Commander of the 22nd Operations Group which was formed in response to England?s declaration of war on Germany. Based out of Langley Field, Virginia, the group flew a wide variety of aircrafts including the B-18, B-25. This elite unit trained intensely, and 16 hours after the attacks on Pearl Harbor, the 44 planes of the 22nd headed for the West Coast and on to the South West Pacific. Their group emblem is "Ducemus" (We lead).
