Notes

The Movado Polyplan, launched in 1912, was available in two sizes, in silver, 14K and 18K gold cases. The larger Cal. 400 movement has a three-tiered main plate, angled by 25° at both ends to enable the case to be highly curved. The balance is placed at one end so a larger, more accurate balance wheel could be used. The central plate housed the gearing and barrel with the opposite angled side containing the setting wheel, stem and crown. Due to the elaborate construction the original sale price was comparatively high and fewer than 1500 examples are believed to have been made. The rarest and most desirable variations available today are those in the large 56 mm 18K white gold cases.
