Musical Striking Swiss, Neuchatel. Made circa 1710. Fine and rare, Louis XIV, ebonized wood and gilt bronze, 8-day going bracket clock with musical hour striking on six bells and a further bell and pull hour repeating, with conforming wall bracket.
C. Ebonized, waisted sides with glazed apertures, gilt bronze foliate scroll mounts, gilt-bronze door, curved stepped cresting with gilt bronze-finial of a phoenix with wings outstretched. D. Cast gilt bronze with outer minute track, the center with a profile portrait of Louis XIV above the French crown, applied white enamel cartouches with radial blue Roman numerals. Pierced steel hands. M. 16 x 15.5 cm., brass plates, large spring barrels for both trains, verge escapement with silk suspension and brass bob pendulum, striking the hours on a large bell mounted above the movement, on the hour playing a tune on six bells before striking the hour, repeating the hour only with a pullcord. Dim. 95 x 34 cm. Including bracket.
