Dent Eight-Day Marine Chronometer Dent, Chronometer Maker to the King, 28 Cockspur St., 4 Royal Exchange, London, No. 62675. Made circa 1905. Very fine and very rare, mahogany, 8-day going, marine chronometer with 24-hour dial, powerreserve indication, trio-in-uno balance spring and unusual auxiliary compensation. Accompanied by a rachet key.

C. Three-body, mahogany wood box with brass handles, glazed upper section with hinged lid. Brass bowl and gimballed suspension. D. Brushed silver with radial Arabic 24-hour numerals, subsidiary dials for the seconds and power-reserve indication. Blued steel spade hands. M. Gilt brass, two frame, with perlage decoration, going train frame with cylindrical pillars, fusée with chain and Harrison?s maintaining power, escapement frame with balance shield containing the Earnshaw-type spring detent escapement with jeweled locking stone, cut bimetallic compensation balance with temperature adjustment screws and meantime adjustment nuts, auxilliary compensation of two straight springs footed at one end to two additional arms at right-angles to the balance arm, the outer tip of the spring secured by a vertical pin in the balance rim at the cut edge, freesprung blued steel trio-in-uno balance-spring , diamond endstone. Dial signed, box with E. Dent paper label. Diam. Bowl 143 mm. Dim. Box 23 x 22 x 22 cm.

This chronometer has the very rare trio-in-uno balance spring and an unusual auxiliary compensation to the balance formed of two extra arms at 90 degrees to the main balance arm, the ends of these arms with a footed spring extending to the rim of the balance cut and secured there by a vertical pin.
