F(erdinand) Berthoud Venus & Cup id F(erdinand) Berthoud a Paris, No. 989. Made circa 1780. Fine, gold, painted on enamel and pearl-set, pocket watch.
C. Two-body, bassine, split-pearl-set bezel, pendant and bow, the back decorated with a finely painted on enamel scene of Cupid being comforted by Venus in a woodland setting, split-pearl-set border. D. White enamel with radial blue Roman numerals, outer minute track and red Arabic five-minute numerals, winding aperture at 2 o?clock. Pierced gold hands. M. 37 mm., hinged gilt brass full plate with hexagonal baluster pillars, fusee with chain, cylinder escapement, three-arm steel balance, flat balance spring, pierced and foliate chased continental type balance cock with polished steel end-piece, silver regulation dial. Dial and movement signed. Diam. 47 mm.
