Henri Grandjean diamond-set pocket watch Hri. Grandjean & Cie, Locle & London, No. 23370. Made for the South American market, circa 1870. Very fine and rare, 18K yellow gold, painted on enamel and rose-cut diamond-set keyless pocket watch. Accompanied by a numbered white enamel alternative dial and the original Henri Grandjean fitted box.
C. Four-body, bassine et filets, reeded band, the front cover decorated with a finely painted on enamel grisaille cartouche on a translucent royal blue ground, the center with a polychrome putto within a rectangular rose-cut diamond-set border, outer black champleve enamel border with engraved gold anthemions, the back cover decorated en suite. Hinged gold cuvette with engraved border. D. Engraved silver with painted radial Roman numerals, the center and outer border with applied gold foliate decoration, subsidiary seconds. Blued steel spade hands. M. 14 ½???, matte gilt, three-quarter plate, jewelled to the third wheel, wolf?s tooth winding, lateral lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Dial, cuvette and movement signed. Diam. 43 mm.
