American Watch Co., Waltham, Mass., No. 2719962, circa 1885.Very fine and rare, 18K multicolored gold, hunting-cased, keyless split-seconds chronograph watch.
C. four-body, box-hinged, front with applied gold letters "J.A. Smith", back cover with applied four gold horses on applied green gold pasture, reeded edges, vermicelli band. D. white enamel, Roman numerals, outer minute and fifth-second ring with five-minute/seconds red Arabic markers, sunk subsidiary seconds at 9 o'clock. Blued steel "Parallel Spade" hands. M. 14 size, nickel, 3/4 plate, damascened, 20 jewels, the top ones in gold settings, gold wheel train, straight line calibrated lever escaement, cut-bimetallic compensation balance with gold screws, blued steel Breguet balance spring, gold engraved pallet fork bridge, micrometric cam regulator, safety pinion. Engraved "Pat. Sept. 28. 80 Eng. Pat. No. 3224".Signed on the dial, case and movement.Diam. 52.8 mm.
