Swiss Pivoted Detent Chronometer Swiss, retailed by J. French, Royal Exchange, London, No. 16468. Made circa 1870. Fine, 18K gold, keyless pocket chronometer with pivoted detent escapement.

C. Five-body, bassine et filets, engine-turned with polished borders, the band decorated with chased shells and foliage. Hinged gold cuvette engraved "Chronometro". D. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and Arabic five-minute numerals, subsidiary seconds. Blued steel fleur-de-lys hands. M. 43 mm., 20''', matte gilt three-quarter plate, 8 jewels, threer in screwed gold chatons, Earnshaw type pivoted detent escapement, free-sprung cut bimetallic compensation balance with gold screws, blued steel helical balance spring. Dial and movement signed by the retailer. Diam. 54 mm.
