Longines Type A-7 U.S. Army Av igation Hack Watch Longines, Type A-7, movement No. 5298511, case No. 5288377. Sold to Longines U.S. agent Wittnauer on September 14, 1935. Very fine and very rare, large, nickel, military wristwatch with single co-axial button chronograph, register and aviator?s angled dial.

C. Three-body, polished, hinged back engraved with the military issue details, large winding-crown with co-axial button for the start/stop and return-to-zero functions of the chronograph, straight lugs with screwed bars. Hinged nickel cuvette. D. Désaxé brushed silver with luminous Arabic numerals, outer minute track with fifths of a second divisions and Arabic five-minute/seconds numerals, subsidiary seconds and 30-minute register dials. Blued steel luminous skeleton hands. M. Cal. 18.72 engraved U.S. Army A.C., rhodium plated, fausses cotes decoration, 17 jewels,straight-line lever escapement, monometallic balance, self-compensating Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Dial, case and movement signed. Diam. 49 mm. Thickness 15 mm.

This very rare and unusual large chronograph was prepared for the United States Air Force from the beginning of the 1930's. The "désaxé" dial was meant to allow easier reading of the dial during the various phases of piloting. The back of the case is engraved as follows: "U.S. ARMY A.C. - AVIGATION HACK WATCH - TYPE A-7 - SERIAL NO AC-35-56 - ORDER NO 35-2409 P - SPECIFICATION NO 27748 - MFRS ASSYNO DWG NO 1872 - LONGINES
