For almost 20 years IKEPOD's singular designs have challenged the watch industry status quo. The story began with the Pod watch, conceived by international design sensation Marc Newson when he was only 23 years old. This time around, for Only Watch 2011, IKEPOD has combined one of the oldest known mechanisms, the Hourglass, with the most sophisticated materials: borosilicate glass and stainless steel nanoballs. The result: a 10-minute 1.5 kg red hourglass that slows down the passage of time by measuring it in volume and not in seconds. The IKEPOD Only Watch Hourglass was hand-crafted in Basel, bringing it into the context of the great Swiss horological tradition. Turning over the IKEPOD Hourglass begins the cascade of millions of nanoballs against glass, creating a soothing sound, and delivering a measurement of time in which, for a few precious moments, time itself is suspended.
