WAGNER THE MONKEY AND THE LION Carl Wagner, Swiss. Made circa 1820. Fine and unusual, half-skeletonized, quarterrepeating, silver pocket watch with automaton Jacks in the form of a lion and a monkey.

C. Three-body, ?Empire?, solid, polished with reeded band. Spring-loaded hinged glazed engraved gilt metal cuvette fixed to the movement ring. D. White enamel annular chapter ring with Breguet numerals, outer minute track. Blued steel spade hands. varicolored chased gold monkey and lion jacks on each side of the dial over a polished steel plate, appearing to strike the hours and quarters on two bells, varicolored fi gure of Chronos between and varicolored gold appliqué of trees, foliage and birds below. M. Gilt brass, skeletonised, going barrel, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, fl at balance spring, repeating work on the backplate, repeating on two gongs activated by depressing the pendant.
