NÉCESSAIRE DE DAME French. Made in the late 18th century. Fine and rare, japanned wooden needlework box with fitted tray containing a varicolored gold watch, gold key, gold sealing wax case with ducal seal, perfume flask, vinaigrette, gold thimble and gold scissors.

The rectangular box japanned with fl owers on the sides, the hinged lid with oriental fi gures in a landscape, hinged handle with bone terminals, interior with fi tted tray over further compartments containing a gold sealing wax case, the base engraved with a coat of arms beneath a ducal coronet, a gold watch key, a thimble, glass perfume fl ask, glass vinaigrette and gold scissors with steel blades. The watch: Two-body, Louis XV, bezel with repeated pattern, the back decorated with varicolored gold fl ower branches and a bird with small engraved monogram, border to match the bezel. D. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and Arabic fi ve-minute numerals. Gold Louis XV hands. M. 35 mm., matte gilt, full plate, fuse and chain, verge escapement with three-arm brass balance, fl at balance spring, pierced and chased continental cock, silver regulation dial. Diam. 43. 5 mm.
