DIDISHEIM, MUSICAL POCKET WATCH Albert Didisheim & Frères, St. Imier, Swiss, movement No. 9199, case No. 9242. Made circa 1905. Fine and rare, large, silver, musical watch with barillet-type pinned cylinder musical movement, two independent trains with bidirectional dual-winding, playing the famous music hall tune ?ta-ra-ra-boom-de-ay? at will.

C. Three-body, bassine, polished bezel and band, the back cover with engine-turned decoration and a central vacant cartouche, pin at 3 o?clock for winding the musical movement by turning the crown anti-clockwise, pin for handsetting at 1 o?clock, slide at 9 to activate the music. Glazed silver-rimmed cover to view the movement. D. White enamel, the reverse signed ?Pil?s ? 05 / 12 Geneva?, with small offset chapter ring with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track, the lower half decorated in gold with a rowing boat with two rowers and a third fi gure playing the accordion. Gold Louis XV hands. M. 21???, rhodium plated base-plate with oeil-de-perdrix decoration, 13??? watch movement with brass plates, dual winding form the same stem for both trains, jeweled cylinder escapement, three-arm gold balance, blued steel fl at balance spring, index regulator with engraved scale on the base-plate. Musical movement with large going barrel mounted between the dial and plate, barillet-type pinned brass cylinder playing against 27 tuned steel teeth in a single comb. Case punched with Swiss and German hallmarks. Diam. 60 mm.

The musical movement plays the tune called ?ta-ra-ra-boom-de-ay?, a famous music hall and vaudeville song introduced in Boston, Massachusetts in ?Tuxedo? in 1891.
