Notes

Caliber 48, designed by Lange for the Wehrmacht, was designed to have a daily variation rate of less than 1 second. Its winding indicator was invented by Otto Lange and patented in Germany on Sept. 6, 1940, patent No 732162. The Wehrmacht?s demand for these watches was such that the Lange factory had to employ outside watchmakers to finish them, in this case Andreas Huber. For a note on the Guillaume brass balance, see lot 5.
