Notes

Jacob, who had 12 sons, showed special favor to Joseph who was one of his youngest sons. This made Joseph?s brothers jealous. They sold him as a slave to the Ishmaelites and told their father that he had been killed by a wild animal. Joseph spent several years as a slave, and then several years in prison. Much later, when he saw his brothers again, he forgave them. The story is told as an example of mercy and forgiveness.
