Lavinia receiving the letter Piguet et Meylan, Geneva, No. 3977/83, made for the Chinese market, circa 1825. Very fine and rare 18K gold and painted on enamel, pearl-set, quarter-repeating watch.
C. Four-body, basket-shaped, with asymmetrical concave band, back with finely painted on enamel scene depicting the scene of Lavinia receiving the letter from Thompson?s ?Seasons?, Alpine landscape in the background, band, bezels, pendant and bow set with half pearls alternating with dark blue translucent champlevé enamel, gold hinged cuvette finely decorated with champlevé enamel. D. White enamel, radial Roman numerals, outer minute ring, subsidiary seconds. Blued steel skeletonized ?tulip? hands. M. 43 mm, gilt brass, bridge caliber, cylinder escapement, three-arm plain brass balance, flat balance spring with compensation curb, repeating on gongs by depressing the pendant. Punched with the maker?s mark on the pillar plate under the dial. Diam. 53 mm.
