GLAESNER - LES SCIENCES LES ARTS ET L'ASTRONOMIE Glaesner a Lions (Lyon). Made circa 1785. Fine and very rare, small, Louis XVI, ormolu, 8-day going, hour and half hour striking mantel clock.

C. Rectangular base on four turned feet and with pearled and interlaced decoration. Surmounted by a globe and fl anked by branches of laurel and mistletoe, the movement is supported by a small square fl uted column, the various instruments of arts and sciences lying at the base. D. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and outer Arabic minute numerals. Gilt brass Louis hands. M. Gilt-brass, circular, off-set barrels for the going and striking trains, anchor escapement, brass bob pendulum with silk suspension, striking on a bell with count wheel on the back plate. Dial signed. Dim. 32 x 18 x 10 cm.

Glaesner à Lyon Worked in the Place du Théatre. He established a workshop in 1783. During the siege of Lyon he was imprisoned for his political opinions and his shop was robbed by looters. He died in 1800. Literature: Dictionnaire des Horlogers Francais, Tardy, p. 260.
