SILVER GOLIATH CALENDAR MOON PHASE WATCH WITH BAROMETER & COMPASS DESK COMPENDIUM CASE Swiss, Geneva, case No. 33842, retailed by Sir John Bennett, maker to The Royal Observatory, 64 & 65 Cheapside, London. The case with London hallmarks for 1887-8. Very fine and unusual, large, silver, keyless Goliath watch with triple calendar, moon phases, black dial and a separate nickel-cased barometer and compass. Accompanied by the original leather covered common case with strut for desk use.
C. Four body, massive, "bassine et fi lets", polished correctors in the band. Hinged silver cuvette. D. Black enamel with radial white Roman numerals, outer minute track, subsidiary dials for seconds, date and days of the week, apertures for the months and the moon phases. Silver spade hands. M. 56 mm, frosted gilt, 15 jewels, counterpoised straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel Breguet balance spring, index regulator. Cuvette signed by the retailer. Diam. 67 mm. Dim of case: 19.5 x 14 cm.
