THE TEMPLE GUARDIAN PAGODA CLOCK Japy Freres, Paris, movement No. 1183. Made circa 1880. Fine and impressive, gilt-brass and porcelain, 8-day going, hour and half-hour striking table clock.
C. In the form of a gilt-brass bamboo pagoda with gilt-brass rope bindings, basket-weave and bamboo gilt-brass roof, the front pillars entwined with painted porcelain fl owers and green-painted metal leaves, within the pagoda sits a porcelain fi gure of a temple guardian on the back of a temple dog, resting his hands upon his sword, stepped base with pierced frieze. D. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute track and outermost Arabic fi ve-minute numerals. Blued steel spade hands. M. 82 mm., circular brass plates, going barrels for both trains, cylinder escapement on a gilt platform, three-arm balance, index regulator, striking on a gong. Movement signed. Dim. 38 x 46 x 26 mm.
