Very fine and rare eight day-going hour- and half hour-striking musical painting with clock, with echo activated at 12 o?clock, music playing on demand.

C. Gilt wood framed, oil on canvas, depicting a French seaside town, a church on the left with the clock in its bell-tower. D. White enamel with radial Roman numerals, outer minute markers. Blued steel hands. M. Brass, square, with going barrels for the going and the striking trains, anchor escapement, pendulum with silk suspension. Striking on a gong with two hammers, with count wheel on the back plate. Additional brass movement for the carillon playing at 12 o?clock, striking on two gongs with its own two hammers, fly regulator released by main movement, striking train at 12 o?clock. 6 tune musical movement with 13 cm. brass pinned cylinder. Dim. 98 x 80 cm., including the frame.

During the second half of the 19th century, such paintings with music and clocks, and sometimes with automata, were in fashion in France and in Austria. They often have "echo" effects. Today they have become quite rare.
